Bronx, NY
(Jan. 20, 2017) – The Purchase College men's basketball team is hitting its stride in the second half of the season.
The Panthers are red hot of late, streaking to their fifth consecutive victory Friday night at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Panthers took control midway through the first half and cruised to an 83-69 win, dropping the Dolphins to 4-13 overall and 2-6 in conference.
Purchase (12-4, 6-2 Skyline Conference) started off scoring the first three points, which CMSV countered by scoring six straight. The Mount pushed its lead to six points with 12:37 remaining in the half.
Kewan Beebe (JR/Glen Cove, NY) tied the score at 13-13 with 8:47 left in the period and for the next few possessions the lead would trade hands. A CMSV layup with 5:59 left in the half put the home side up, 21-19, but that would be the final lead the Dolphins would hold the rest of the game.
The Panthers would end the half on a 17-8 run to take a 36-29 advantage into the locker room.
Purchase would lead the entire second half, with CMSV getting as close as five points on two different occasions.
A few minutes later, Krystian Kopec would connect on a 3-pointer to pull the Dolphins within five at 42-37 with 16:03 left. But after that shot, the Panthers rattled off an 18-5 run, capped off by a layup on the break by Beebe, who led all scorers with 23 points, to make the score 60-42 with 9:43 left. The lead would never shrink to below 12 points down the stretch.
Matthew Sowah led four Dolphins in double figures. He scored 17 points.
Purchase also had four players in double figures offensively, highlighted by Beebe's 23.
Nikeem Deleon (JR/Bronx, NY) chipped in 13 points.
