Panthers Bounce Back at SLC

Bronxville, NY (Jan. 7, 2017) – Purchase College men's basketball evened their Skyline Conference record Saturday at Sarah Lawrence College, earning an 86-60 road win.

Purchase, which dropped its first game of the New Year earlier in the week to Sage, recovered at SLC and is now 2-2 in league play and 8-4 overall. The loss dropped the Gryphons to 5-6 and 1-1.

The Panthers scored the game's first seven points before SLC reversed the momentum momentarily. The Gryphons took their first lead of the game, 11-9, after six and a half minutes of action.

Parker Hagmaier added a field goal to put SLC in front, 13-11, for what would be the last time the Green and White held the lead.

Purchase's shooters were unstoppable in the game, making 50 percent of their shots (16-for-32) in the period.

Starting the second half trailing 41-27, SLC was unable to cut the deficit to single digits. The Panthers shot 13-for-18 from the field (72.2 percent) and held off any of the Gryphons' advances en route to the comfortable victory.

The Panthers had four players finish in double figures offensively, including forward Givvion Jones (JR/Mount Vernon, NY), who tallied 19 off the bench. He also hauled in seven boards, two blocks and one steal. Second-half transfer guard Kewan Beebe (JR/Glen Cove, NY) also turned in a nice effort off the bench with 13 points, four rebounds, one block and two steals in 17 minutes. Brian Berrios (JR/New York, NY) and Deshawn Cann (SO/Queens, NY) added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

SLC was led by Jeff Jordan. Jordan set a program record with his 7-for-7 field goal shooting, becoming the first Gryphon to go perfect on more than five attempts in a game. His 21-point total was accompanied by four rebounds and four assists.
