(Oct. 28, 2017) – The Purchase College women's volleyball team wrapped its 2017 campaign Saturday in a tri-match with USMMA and Old Westbury at USMMA.
The host Mariners paid tribute to their six graduating seniors on Senior Day Ceremony before topping the Panthers, 3-0. Old Westbury also defeated Purchase 3-0, while USMMA swept the afternoon in a 3-0 victory over OW.
The Mariners improve to 15-7 (8-2 Skyline) with the two wins. Old Westbury, which also beat Purchase, closes out the season with a 13-13 record (2-8 Skyline) after the split and Purchase ends the year 0-22 (0-10 Skyline) after a pair of losses.
In the first match against Purchase, the Mariners were led by Dominique Pope, who had a match-high 15 kills and tied for the match-high with eight digs. Setter Kyleigh Kappas dished out 23 assists to lead all players.
Alex Lally (SR/Mesquite, TX) had a memorable finale. She finished with a team-best five kills and eight digs against USMMA.
Old Westbury opened the Purchase match hitting .129 in the first set before tapering off in the next two stanzas to finish attacking at a .040 clip. Purchase hit .065 in the match while OW held the advantage in aces (20-9), assists (22-20) and blocks (5-2).
OW's Kyraleigh Zinnel combined 17 digs, 11 assists and nine aces to post her seventh double-double of the season in leading the team. Kristin Grieshaber followed with 10 digs, nine assists, six kills and two aces.
Panther rookie
Noelle Miller (SO/ Chittenango, NY) dished out 18 assist to pace Purchase while Lally had 12 digs and nine kills.
