Albany, NY (Dec. 3, 2017) – Despite three players in double figures, the Purchase women's basketball team fell Saturday on the road to host Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 63-59.
Leading the pack for Purchase (2-4) was junior guard
Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) who scored 16 points while tallying a game-high 11 steals. Senior guard
Kayla Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) and junior guard
Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) chipped in with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Another key contributor on the Panther roster was junior guard
Nyasia Harris (South Fallsburg, NY) who totaled nine points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with both teams having an advantage for various stretches. Purchase ran a press for almost the full 40 minutes, forcing ACPHS (2-3) into 35 turnovers while committing just 18 of their own. Albany's defense, however, was stifling— holding Purchase to 21 made baskets on 82 attempts (25.6%). The host team also took a 40-22 advantage in points in the paint over the visiting Panthers.
ACPHS senior Dannie Griffin was the star of the game, churning out an impressive 34 points and 24 rebounds.
Purchase will look to rebound this Tuesday, Dec. 5 on the road at St. Joseph's College (LI) beginning at 7 p.m.
