Rosemont, PA
(March 4, 2017) – Purchase College's first-year program, men's lacrosse, seized an early two-goal advantage Saturday at Rosemont College, but the host Ravens overcame the first quarter mark to pull off a 15-7 decision.
In the process, Rosemont (1-3) earned its first win of the season, while its head coach, Dave Baker, picked up his first as a Ravens skipper.
Purchase (0-2) held a 3-1 lead, and later a 3-2 score, before Rosemont mounted its comeback.
The Ravens led 7-4 at intermission and performed well in the second half at the Ravens Athletic Complex.
"We made some progress in our second game," said
Purchase head coach Michael Bocklet, Jr. "We have to learn to play with leads. The guys were very up early, but they need to sustain that energy throughout. It's a growing process, but again, we made some progress, and we'll look to build off of this moving forward."
The Ravens got off to a good start only 3:21 into the contest as Anthony Bottoms found Tyler Ferrara, who beat Panthers keeper
Michael Fruhling (FR/Bedford, NY) giving Rosemont a 1-0 lead.
The lead lasted for about five minutes before Purchase scored three straight goals in the span of 57 seconds to take a 3-1 edge.
In the second quarter Rosemont came out flying high as Bottoms started a 5-1 goal run, which saw Bobby Fritz, Ben Koszelak and Ferrara all contribute.
Fritz picked up his second goal of the game with 8:32 left in the third to give Rosemont an 8-4 lead heading to the fourth.
The final frame saw Purchase cut the score to 8-5 1:52 into the quarter on a goal from
Johan Morales (JR/South Hampton, NY). Koszelak would put the Ravens back up by four at 9-5 with 11:49 left.
The Panthers, however, did not go quietly as
Simon Lai (SR/Garrison, NY) hit the back of the net 43 seconds later closing it back to a 9-6 score.
Over the final 9:46, Rosemont put the game out of reach, as they outscored Purchase, 6-1.
Koszelak paced Rosemont with five goals on eight shots on goal. Keeper Cassius Christie made 12 saves for the win.
Lai led the visitors with a hat trick and two assists.
Daniel Desaulniers (FR/Watertown, CT) scored twice and was 5-19 at the faceoff X. Morales and
Isaac Aguero (SO/Bronx, NY) each found the net once. Fruhling made 13 saves in the loss.
