Late Comeback Falls Short in Loss to SJC-LI

Purchase, NY (April 1, 2017) – Turnovers loomed large for the Purchase College women's lacrosse team in an 18-11 loss to St. Joseph's College-LI at home Saturday.

The Panthers, who stormed back in the second half, fell short. Purchase is now 1-3 overall, including 0-2 in Skyline Conference play. The league matchup improved the Golden Eagles to 2-8 on the spring and 1-1 in the Skyline.

SJC-LI led 7-4 at halftime. It was 3-2 early in favor of the visitors, but the Eagles managed to finish the half strong and carry that momentum over into the second half.

Purchase showed resilience in its comeback effort, cutting it to 15-10 before SJC-LI rallied once more for the seven-goal win. The visitors were paced by Brooke Kreuscher and her fourth goals. Kristin Carroll and Alexis Hillman added three goals apiece, while three others scored twice and two had single goals.

The Panthers also had a four-goal scorer in Kelly Turtell (JR/Farmingdale, NY). Emma Porter (JR/Homer, NY) was sharp in her return with three goals and six assists for nine points.

Turtell, Porter and Zoe Hines (JR/Maplewood, NJ) sparked the late come-from-behind effort. Hines finished with two goals and one assist. Madi Smith (JR/Lagrangeville, NY) and Alexa Youre-Moses (SO/Rockaway Beach, NY) contributed single goals on the afternoon.

SJC-LI held advantages in shots (42-22) and shots on goal (28-18). The Panthers committed 17 turnovers in the loss, but outperformed the visitors in draw controls (19-9) and ground balls (17-13).

The Golden Eagles capitalized on the turnovers and six free position shots in the victory.
