Troy, NY
(April 2, 2017) – Sage edged Purchase softball in the opener Sunday and then sealed the doubleheader in a game-two victory.
The Gators took the first game, 2-1, and then completed the sweep in an 8-0 final at Robison Field – the conference opener for Purchase.
In game one, Panther standout
Kelly Hayes (SO/Staten Island, NY) handed Purchase an early 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout that plated
Lisa Kentris (SO/Latham, NY) in the top half of the first.
But Amy Hart had an RBI single in the fifth that tied the game before Sage's Samantha Montague drove home the game-winning run in the seventh on a groundout.
Purchase starter
Nicole Fortuna (SR/New Rochelle, NY) allowed two runs and struck out three in the hard-luck loss.
Allison Ford earned the win in the circle for the Gators. She struck out five over seven innings, limiting the visitors to one run on five hits – two of which came from
Briana Leon (SR/Glen Cove, NY). Hayes also tripled in the loss.
In game two, Hart was the story. The starting pitcher tossed a complete game no-hitter, striking out seven. She allowed only one walk. Alexa Silk paced the offense for Sage with two RBI in game two.
Sage is now 6-10 overall, including 5-1 in Skyline Conference play. Purchase is 0-4 and 0-2 in the league.
