(April 22, 2017) – Women's lacrosse traveled to rival Mount Saint Mary Saturday and dropped a 15-11 matchup.
The Panthers were without a few notables, including standout attacker
Kelly Turtell (JR/Farmingdale, NY), who was away on NCAA convention. Despite that, Purchase battled MSMC on its Senior Day.
Katie Gattoni led the scoring attack for the hosts with six goals and five draw controls.
Purchase opened the game with three of the first four goals of the contest and used a four goal run in the middle stages of the period to open an 8-2 advantage of the Knights.
Madi Smith (JR/Lagrangeville, NY) scored twice in the run for the Panthers, while
Emma Porter (JR/Homer, NY) scored half of the team's first eight tallies.
Following a Smith marker with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, the Knights closed the opening stanza on a 5-0 run to climb back to within 8-7 heading into halftime.
Christina Ryan and Amanda Clemens scored with the man advantage for the Knights over the run.
Mount Saint Mary held an 11-7 edge in ground balls after 30 minutes, while Purchase won 10 of the 16 draw controls contested before halftime.
Mount Saint Mary maintained its momentum coming out of halftime, scoring the first two goals of the period to move in front for the first time of the day on a Gattoni marker just over two minutes into the frame.
Following a Porter tally that tied the score at 9-9, the Knights ripped off the next five goals to open a 14-9 lead.
Purchase would get as close as three goals in the final two minutes, but a Clemens tally with 1:21 left in the game finished off the win for the Mount.
Porter led all players in the game with seven goals and eight points for Purchase with Smith and
Zoe Hines (JR/Maplewood, NJ) each scoring twice. Hines won a game-high six draw controls, while
Meghan Organ (FR/Holtsville, NY) scooped five ground balls.
