Men’s Lacrosse Concludes Season at Montclair State

Montclair, NJ (April 24, 2017) – Purchase men's lacrosse wrapped their first full varsity season Monday night at Montclair State, facing arguably the best team in the league in their finale.

The Red Hawks won 21-5.

Montclair State's Matt Haemmerle scored three times as 16 players found the back of the net at Sprague Field. John Slater finished with two goals and two assists for the Red Hawks, who extended their winning streak to nine games while closing out its sixth consecutive Skyline Conference slate at 9-0.

MSU will be the No. 1 seed in the Skyline Tournament. Montclair, which received a first-round bye, will host a semifinal contest on Wednesday, May 3 against the Farmingdale State/Kean winner.

Haemmerle's second with 10:58 to go made the score 6-0 and his third two minutes later pushed the lead to 8-0.

Dylan Gethicker (JR/Lime Lake, NY) snapped the run with an unassisted tally, however, MSU added two more in putting the finishing touches on the win. The hosts led 13-2 at half and 19-4 after three periods.

Gethicker led Purchase with two goals. Daniel Desaulniers (FR/Watertown, CT), Simon Lai (SR/Garrison, NY) and Isaac Aguero (SO/Bronx, NY), Isaac also recorded goals as the Panthers wrapped a successful inaugural campaign.
