Bronx, NY
(Sept. 15, 2017) – The Purchase College women's soccer team ran into rookie standout Melanie Siranaula and Lehman College Friday.
The freshman scored a pair of goals to fuel a 3-0 victory. In the process, Lehman improved to 2-3-1 overall, dropping Purchase to 1-3.
The Lightning pressed the attack early and were rewarded with the game's first goal in the 20th minute. After Purchase tried to play ball out of its end, Pamela Sanchez stole it just in front of the midfield line. From there she went on a short run and played the ball into the box, where Siranaula beat the defense to put the Lightning up 1-0.
The score stayed there into halftime.
The game got more physical in the second half, as the Panthers used a frenetic pace to try and even the score.
Lehman would capitalize in the 79th minute. Lehman's Daniela Castro had the ball in the right corner of the box. She played it back to the top of the box for Siranaula, who netter her second of the contest.
The hosts got an insurance marker in the final minute from Lillian Barreto.
The Panthers return to Purchase Monday and will look to bounce back against St. Joseph's College-LI in their second league matchup of the fall and first on campus.
