Purchase, NY
(Oct. 10, 2018) – An evenly played conference matchup was decided in overtime Wednesday night at Purchase, with visiting the College of Mount Saint Vincent prevailing 1-0.
After two incredibly well played halves, highlighted by stellar defense, the Dolphins clipped the Panthers in the extra session. A header from Alyssa Santeramo would prove to be the game-winning goal. It was assisted off a corner kick by Madison Schultz midway through the first OT.
The Panthers and Dolphins matched each other in nearly every category, with CMSV earning a slight edge in shots, 14-13, and the Panthers recording an edge in saves, 9-8.
CMSV ultimately capitalized on its chances off corner kicks, taking seven to Purchase's two on the night.
Lost in defeat was the play of Purchase's defense and keeper.
Amber Yarter (JR/Albany, NY) had a nice night between the pipes for the hosts, while fellow standout
Brett Robison (JR/Franklin Square, NY) made a highlight reel save on a shot attempt by CMSV. She blocked a shot with the keeper over extended and out of the goal, saving CMSV's first real scoring chance in regulation. Robison's play helped Purchase ensure OT.
Yarter finished with nine saves in the hard-luck loss. CMSV goalie, Meaghan Cleary, earned the win. She totaled eight stops.
The Dolphins are now 4-5-1, including 3-1 in Skyline Conference play. The loss drops Purchase to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in league.
