Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Stephanie Janasiewicz, Assistant SID

Purchase Downs Yeshiva on Senior Night

Purchase, NY (Oct. 25, 2018) – Purchase men's soccer completed its 2018 regular season with a 2-0 victory in Wednesday's Senior Game against Skyline rival Yeshiva University.

Purchase (6-8-2, 4-5-1 SKY) enjoyed most of the possession in the opening 45 minutes. Freshman attacker Anthony Guzzone (Shoreham, NY) netted the first goal for the home team at 28:19. The standout rookie collected a pass from the far-right side and ripped a shot at the top of the six-yard box.

Freshman Cristian Ishoo (Irvington, NY) gave Purchase a 2-0 lead in the second half after capitalizing on a rebounded shot by senior teammate Rob Cal (Port Jervis, NY) at 79:38. Ishoo's goal was the first of his Panther career.

The Panthers outshot the visiting Maccabees (7-7, 5-5 SKY) 19-13 and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Purchase junior netminder Jordan Meade (Olivebridge, NY) totaled eight saves in the shutout to bring his season total win count to six.

Before the start of the game, Purchase honored its six seniors with a brief ceremony on the field. Seniors Oliver Dubreus (Cornwall, NY), Adam Cozangi (Forest Hills, NY), Aidan Leavens (Whitestone, NY), Yianni Amvrosiatos (Warwick, NY), Ramsey Heitmann (Garrison, NY) and Rob Cal (Port Jervis, NY) were joined by their family and friends for the pregame recognition.

"Dubreus is one of the most physically gifted players in the conference will be missed by the Panthers," said head coach Brandon Levine. "He converted to a left back in his final year, and he has been a mainstay in the starting 11 and will be a sorely missed positive influence on the team."

Cozangi was hampered by a hamstring injury throughout his final season. "The versatile left sided player has been a vital member to the program in his past years, and his intelligence on and off the ball, and quality left foot, will be missed around the program."

"Leavens is a versatile player who did it all this year. Started as a center forward, striker, outside mid, and outside back in his last year. His intelligence and positive attitude will be missed around the program on a day to day basis."

"Amvrosiatos enjoyed his best statistical season as a Panther while taking on a new role as a wide midfielder. One of the most technical players in the conference has transformed himself into a constant threat in the final 3rd of the field, and has shouldered much of the offensive burden as the leader in goals and assists."

"Heitmann is a senior Captain who took on a much larger leadership role for the Panthers, and has led this group tremendously throughout the season. He recovered from an injury plagued junior year to be a mainstay for the panthers on the right side of the field. His quick feet and willingness to take players on will be sorely missed on the field, and his leadership and personality will be the biggest thing we miss about this influential personality."

"Cal is one of the best players to put on a men's soccer uniform in recent years. He has reinvented himself as a center back for his final year to help out the team on the defensive end. His physical presence, great feet, and lead by example attitude will leave a huge hole in the Purchase lineup for years to come."
