Women's Basketball Tops NJCU in Nail-Biter

Back-to-back blocks from Harris and Krasniqi secure 46-45 Panther victory

Teaneck, NJ (Nov. 18, 2018) – Purchase College earned its first win of the season on day two of the Fairleigh Dickinson Tip-Off Classic over the weekend. The Panthers battled New Jersey City University Sunday and came out victorious in the 46-45 non-conference decision.

With the win, Purchase advances to 1-2 overall, while NJCU drops to 0-2 on the season.

The game was close throughout, producing 24 lead changes and four ties. Purchase had the upper hand in shooting for three of the four quarters, but went cold in the second stanza with only four points. The Panthers bounced back after the break, however, and totaled a 26-17 shooting advantage to secure the win.

Junior forward Arta Krasniqi (Bronx, NY) highlighted the Panther win with a team-best 16 points and nine rebounds. She netted back-to-back 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to give PC 46-41 advantage over NJCU. She later shutdown the final offensive attempt taken by the Knights with a block at five seconds.

Senior guard Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) aided the Purchase offense with 10 points, while also collecting nine rebounds. Senior center Nyasia Harris (South Fallsburg, NY) had another impressive night in the paint with 12 boards, six of which were attacking. Harris also recorded two blocks, including one in the final minute of the game.
