(March 18, 2018) – Purchase men's volleyball went 1-1 Sunday in the program's tri-match on campus.
The Panthers welcomed Skyline Conference opponents Yeshiva University and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, besting YU in the first match of the day, 3-0, before falling to the Dolphins in the finale, 3-0. YU also lost 3-0 to CMSV in the middle matchup.
Purchase defeated YU 25-12, 25-18, 25-18. The Panthers fell 25-9, 25-10, 25-21 against CMSV. The Dolphins posted a 25-10, 25-6, 25-11 final against the Maccabees.
The hosts raced out to an 8-2 lead in the opener, seizing a 25-12 win against YU. The Macs performed better in the second set, closing within 16-12 of Purchase, and later 19-16. But Purchase regrouped and held a 22-17 advantage on its way to a 25-18 win in the second set. The third was close early, too. It was tied 4-4 and 9-9. The Panthers then opened things, taking a 10-9 lead, and later the match once again, 25-18.
The Dolphins, which improved to a perfect 5-0 in league play, dominated YU in the second matchup of the afternoon. They never trailed.

However, it was a close matchup with the Panthers early in the third game. CMSV led 6-4. The Dolphins then went on a huge run, sealing a 25-9 victory. That success carried over into the second set, 25-10.
The Panthers showed resilience in the last set of the afternoon, but ultimately, CMSV was too strong.
Purchase is now 3-3 in the league. The two losses dropped YU to 2-6 in the Skyline.
Purchase was paced by
Luke Kubisch (JR/DElmar, NY) and
Andreo Otiniano (SO/Mamaroneck, NY) against YU, with the duo registering 10 and nine kills, respectively. Kubisch led all scorers. Setter
Christopher Williams (SR/Valley Stream, NY) added seven kills and a match-high 16 assists (shared with YU's Isaac Pomerance). Otiniano notched a match-high nine digs.
YU's Derek Orenshein totaled eight kills in the loss.
In the finale, CMSV was led by Owen Smith and his match-high nine kills. Logan Dickover handed out a match-high 30 assists.
Kubisch paced Purchase with six kills. Williams finished with eight assists, and teammate
Masaya Funakoshi (SOTarrytown, NY) contributed a match-high five digs (shared with CMSV's Sean O'Connor).
