Jamaica, NY
(Sept. 11, 2018) – The Purchase College women's volleyball team bounced back from a tough home opener itself to spoil York College's debut on its home court Tuesday night.
The much-improved Panthers swept the hosts 3-0, posting a 25-11, 25-9, 25-10 final.
Captain
Joetta Francis (JR/New York, NY) set the tone offensively. She recorded a match-high six kills. Standout newcomer
Sommer Code (FR/Bronx, NY) found her groove in the second match, going for five kills and a match-high 10 digs to spark the team defensively.
Karina Medina (FR/Brooklyn, NY) was the third key of a three-headed attack, notching four kills, three aces and handing out a match-high 12 assists to spearhead Purchase's evening of sharing of the volleyball. Fellow newcomer
Skyla Schoppmeyer (FR/Oakdale, NY) added three aces, two assists and eight digs to her credit.
Grace Ann Gropp (FR/Webster, NY) totaled four digs and one assist in the victory.
Purchase is now 1-1. York falls to 0-4 in the non-conference matchup.
Panther head coach
Albana Krasniqi Munrett is thrilled with the team's performance. "We played very well, and this is something we can certainly build from," she said afterward. "There's a lot of talent on our roster. We showed glimpses of that in the home opener, but we need to be more consistent throughout, and we were able to do that tonight."
Cardinals rookie Kiara Gonzalez led the team with two kills and Chayana Jimenez had seven digs in the loss.
