Perfect Make in Panther Loss

Purchase, NY (Jan. 5, 2019) – Purchase College senior guard Willie Britton drained three free throws with under a second left in Saturday's game, but the host Panthers could not hold off the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) offense in overtime. The visiting Bears closed action with a 105-98 Skyline Conference victory.

Purchase (5-6, 3-4 Skyline) got off to a late start, trailing SJC 10-0 after the first two minutes of play. Britton connected on a jumper at 17:34 to put Purchase up on the board, 10-2.

The Panthers continued to chip away at the Bears' lead, coming within three points (41-38) on an Elijah Lott (JR/East Greenbush, NY) three-point bucket at 3:05.

St. Joe's answered with a 13-6 run to close out the half in front, 51-47.

Purchase outscored the Bears after the break, 41-37, tied the game at 88 apiece on Britton's perfect free throws.

In overtime, SJC rookie guard Bryan Medy totaled an impressive seven points and four rebounds to lead the Bears to a 105-98 victory.

Medy led all scorers on the afternoon with a total 35 points and 11 boards. Teammate Frank Reali netted 28 points and Stephane Etheart chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. Sebastien Etheart recorded the second double-double for SJC with 11 points and 11 boards, to go along with a game-high eight assists.

For Purchase, Britton (Queens, NY) netted a team-best 24 points and four steals. Jorge Perdomo (SO/Bronx, NY) connected on 5-of-7 three-point shots and totaled 20 points, while Lott and Maxx Miller (JR/White Plains, NY) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Purchase is back at home again on Tuesday (Jan. 8). The Panthers look to bounce back with a win as they host SUNY Maritime for a Skyline tip-off starting at 7 p.m.
