Men's Soccer Downed At Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated at Manhattanville College Saturday afternoon, 5-1, in a Skyline Conference match.

With the loss, the Panthers are now 6-6-1 overall and 4-2 in the Skyline. Meanwhile, the Valiants of Manhattanville improved to 8-2-2 and 5-0-1 respectively.

From the start, the hosts established themselves as the dominant team in the contest, scoring in just the third minute. The goal came from Kendall Davis (SO/Bound Brook, NJ) off a feed from Pablo Bravo Ollie (JR/Barcelona, Spain) and allowed the Valiants to control the match the rest of the way.

After collecting the assist on the opening goal, Ollie provided the next two strikes, one in the 28th minute and the other in 66th, putting the hosts in front for good.

However, the Panthers continued to battle on the day and where rewarded in the 67th minute, when Vincent La Fata (JR/East Meadow, NY) found the back of the net. The chance was setup by a free kick from Juan Arboleda (JR, New Rochelle, NY), who sent the ball into a crowded area six-yards from the goal. As the ball landed, neither side got a head on it, which allowed La Fata to then get his foot on the ball and push it past the keeper.

The goal was the first of the season for La Fata, who is the captain of the squad and leader of the defense.

Despite the strike, Purchase ultimately fell on the day, as Manhattanville added a pair of late goals to cap off the victory. The Valiants outshot the Panthers, 14-6 on goal and 22-9 overall.

Mario Olmedo (FR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with eight saves in the effort.

Up next for the men is more Skyline action, as the team hosts Sarah Lawrence College on October 15th at 7 p.m. You can follow along right here.
