Panthers Fall to Maritime in Skyline Match

PURCHASE, NY - The Purchase College men's soccer team was defeated by Maritime College at home Saturday afternoon, dropping the Skyline Conference contest, 3-1.

With the result, the Panthers fell to 7-7-1 overall and 5-3 in the Skyline, while the Privateers of Maritime College improved to 8-8-1 and 3-4-1.

From the get-go, it was the Privateers who controlled the action in the game. The guests struck in the ninth minute, when Nicholas Gino (SO/Levittown, NY) one-timed a shot into the top right corner off a cross into the box.

In the 36th minute, Gino doubled the lead for Maritime, as his lofted shot from nearly 30-yards out caught Mario Olmedo (FR/East Elmhurst, NY) in no man's land, before finding the top left corner of goal.

Following halftime, the guests picked up right where they left off as they again found the back of the goal in the 53rd minute, extending their lead to 3-0.

Purchase eventually got on the board in the 83rd minute, when Alex Boadu (FR/Acera, Italy) converted a close chance in the goalie box off a cross from Andrew Dubron (FR/Centereach, NY). The goal and assist were the first of Boadu's and Dubron's collegiate careers respectively.

Despite the late goal, the Maritime defense stifled Purchase's offense throughout the day and never let the hosts create any chances until the match was decided.

For the game, Maritime outshot Purchase, 18-11 overall and 7-5 on goal. Olmedo finished with four saves for the Panthers, while Ethan Silver (FR/New Haven, CT) also collected four saves for the Privateers.

Up next for Purchase is the final road game of the regular season, as the team travels to Mount Saint Mary College. That match is set for October 24th at 7 p.m. and you can follow it here.
