PURCHASE, NY – The Purchase College women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2019 season with a 3-0 loss to St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Tuesday night in Skyline Conference play at home.
SJC won by set scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-11 to earn its fifth-straight win and improve to 15-11 overall and 7-2 in the Skyline. Purchase concludes the season with a 5-19 overall record, 1-10 in the league.
Jessica Young paced the Golden Eagles with 12 kills (.556) and added two blocks (one solo) to the winning effort. Melanie O'Hoppe chipped in with seven kills (.200) and Amanda Goldstein, Carolyn Hayes, Kayla Martin and Lauren Harmer each contributed fives kills. Brionna Silva recorded an impressive 31 assists, while Danielle Senecal tallied a match-best 13 digs. The Golden Eagles hit .353 as a team and committed just 10 errors in the match.
Freshman outside hitter
Pamella Gonzalez (Bronx, NY) grabbed four kills and committed just one error (.250) to lead Purchase. The standout rookie also paced the Panther defense along with senior co-captain
Isis Gonzalez (Brooklyn, NY). The pair teamed up for a combined 20 digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Gia Gwin (Yonkers, NY) aided the effort with four kills, while sophomore setter
Skyla Schoppmeyer (Oakdale, NY) tossed up 11 assists.
With the win, St. Joe's moves to No. 4 in league standings as the Golden Eagles get set for Skyline Championships.
