Women's Soccer Concludes 2019 Campaign at Old Westbury

Both teams celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Skyline matchup

OLD WESTBURY, NY – SUNY Old Westbury tallied five goals Wednesday afternoon at Panther Park, ending the Purchase College women's soccer team's season in defeat, 5-1.
The Panthers cap the 2019 campaign with a 7-8 overall record—the most wins for the program since the 2014 season.

Old Westbury was first to light up the board, netting goals at 17:05 and 30:41, respectively. Off a pass Victoria Voboril, Cara Normile found the back of the net from the 25-yard line to earn the game-winner. Bernadelle Dorvil gave the host Panthers a 2-0 advantage after connecting with Mia Almonte's through ball in the attacking third.

At the break, Old Westbury led 2-0 with a 7-3 advantage in shots.

Purchase clawed back early in the second half, thanks to the combined offensive effort from forwards Rebecca Colgan (SO/Valley Stream, NY) and Ashley Blom (SR/Bethpage, NY). Blom sent a brilliant pass down to the field to Colgan, who slipped it past Old Westbury netminder Yakeline Umanzor in the 51st minute.

The rally, however, was short-lived for Purchase as Old Westbury answered back with three-straight goals to secure the 5-1 victory. Dorvil notched her second for the game at 63:38, while Jessica Pedroza tallied the next two goals to cap the scoring for the game.

Old Westbury held a 17-5 shot advantage (8-3 on goal), led by Pedroza with seven shots.

Purchase goalkeeper Amber Yarter (SR/Albany, NY) finished with a trio of saves over the 90 minutes. Umanzor recorded two saves for Old Westbury to push her win total to 10 on the season.

With the win, Old Westbury takes the sixth seed in Skyline standings and will face No. 3 Sarah Lawrence College in the first round of the postseason tournament.
