Ehrhardt, Cassidy Score in 2-1 Victory Over Yeshiva

YONKERS, NY – Sophomore Colman Cassidy scored the game-winning goal in the 41stt minute to lift Purchase College to a 2-1 Skyline Conference victory over Yeshiva University on Thursday night from Fleming Park.

The Panthers advance to 6-3-1 overall (4-1-0 Skyline), while the Maccabees fall to 2-7-1 (0-6-1 Skyline).

All three goals were scored in the opening half. Purchase broke the ice after sophomore forward Jasper Ehrhardt (Brooklyn, NY) converted a shot in the 8th minute for his first career goal. Junior midfielder Juan Arboleda (New Rochelle, NY) and freshman midfielder Brandon Balcaceres (Framingdale, NY) earned the assists on the play.

The Maccabees struck back in the 21st minute. Freshman midfielder Jess Rom found the feet of junior forward Zachary Stauber, who scored from 20 yards out to tie the match, 1-1.

With less than five minutes remaining in the half, PC junior midfielder Eslam Ellisy (Nyack, NY) set Cassidy (Brooklyn, NY) up with a perfectly placed ball deep inside the box. Cassidy tipped it in for the go-ahead goal.

The Maccabees outshot the Panthers, 10-5, during the second half but it was not enough as Purchase was able to hang on to earn the Skyline road victory by a score of 2-1.

For the match, each team produced 17 shots. Yeshiva held a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal, while Purchase had the edge in corner kicks (11-7).

For Purchase, freshman netminder Mario Olmedo (East Elmhurst, NY) earned his sixth win of the season after shutting down eight Maccabee attempts. Yeshiva junior goalkeeper Sagi Badash stopped four shots in the loss.

Purchase returns to its home turf on Oct. 7 for a non-conference matchup against Utica College. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
