PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Purchase College women's basketball team dropped a 61-47 decision to SUNY Poly Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall. The non-conference loss concluded the Panthers' weekend action in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Plattsburgh State.
SUNY Poly (1-2) jumped ahead early, leading 15-5 after the opening quarter.
Purchase (0-4) answered back with a convincing 20-16 run in the second stanza. Sophomore
Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY) and senior
Arta Krasniqi (Bronx, NY) ignited the charge with back-to-back 3-pointers to open the quarter. Senior
Amani Graham (Brooklyn, NY) followed with a layup in the paint to bring the Panthers within three points of SUNY Poly (18-15). Both teams would exchange buckets the rest of the way with the Wildcats pulling ahead 31-25 at the half.
The Panthers continued to connect after the break, chipping away at the Wildcat lead to come within four points (37-33). The team, however, was held to just 25 percent shooting in the final 10 minutes. SUNY Poly closed the game with a 17-12 run to secure the non-conference victory.
SUNY Poly's Molly Burdick led all scorers with 19 points, while pulling down five rebounds. Jada Washington led the defensive effort with a game-high nine boards.
For Purchase, Krasniqi recorded a team-high 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The Panthers return to their home court on Tuesday to host the Skyline Conference opener against US Merchant Marine Academy at 8 p.m.
