Lott Recognized by Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association

NEW YORK, NY - Purchase College junior Elijah Lott has been named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Weekly Honorable Mention, it was announced Tuesday.

Each week, the MBWA selects one player from Div. I and one from Div. II or III as its Player of the Week, while also picking a handful of athletes for its Honorable Mention list as well. The MBWA covers 71 colleges in the New York Metropolitan area and is made up of 21 Div. I, 14 Div. II and 36 Div. III schools.

Lott (Albany, NY), who was also named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week on Monday, earned the honor by compiling 27 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and three steals in a 97-76 win against Hamilton College on December 7th.

Entering the contest, Hamilton sported an unbeaten 7-0 record on the year, a 43-game regular season non-conference winning streak and had made the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons.

None of that stopped Lott from balling out though, just like he has all season, as the junior has now scored 20 or more points in all five games he has played in. For the year, he is averaging 23.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 4.0 steals per game.

Up next for Lott and the Panthers is another matchup with a team that made the NCAA Tournament last season, Gwynedd Mercy University. That contest is set for December 13th at the York College Invitational at 7:30 p.m.

The following day, Purchase will take on either SUNY Potsdam or York College to conclude the 2019 portion of its season. You can follow along both games right here.
