Panthers Cage Golden Eagles, 77-62

Purchase, NY (Feb. 9, 2019) – Purchase College moves to No. 4 in Skyline Conference men's basketball standings with a 77-62 victory over the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (LI) Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers are now tied with SUNY Old Westbury and Sarah Lawrence in league standings with an overall record of 13-10 (11-7 Skyline). In defeat, SJC drops to 5-18 overall (4-14 Skyline).

Purchase senior center Mike Felix (Goshen, NY) opened up the scoring on a pass from senior guard Michael Soffer (Agoura Hills, CA) in the paint. The Panthers stretched the lead to 5-0 before St. Joe's cut the deficit to two points (11-9) on a 9-6 run.

Purchase answered with a 10-0 run to jump ahead 21-9 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half. Both teams traded baskets in the plays to follow before PC fired in another 16-8 run to take a 42-31 halftime lead.

A Felix layup and Soffer 3-pointer set the tone to open the second half. The Panthers held the visiting Golden Eagles to 33 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes en route to the 77-62 victory.

Leading the way for the Purchase offense was senior guard Willie Britton (Bronx, NY), who led all scorers with 21 points. Junior guard Maxx Miller (White Plains, NY) totaled 16 points, nine rebounds, and a game-high four black, while Soffer and Felix finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Lott led the Panther defense with 10 boards, to go along with seven points and an impressive seven assists and six steals.

For the visitors, Brad Weiss recorded a double-double in the books with 13 points and 10 boards. Doug Niblock finished with a team-best 14 points, while Frank Basile chipped in with 12 points.

Up next, Purchase heads to league foe Yeshiva University for the final road game of the regular season. The Skyline tip-off is slated for Tuesday at Baruch College, 8 p.m. start.
