(Mar. 16, 2019) – Purchase College women's lacrosse dropped a tough non-conference matchup, 19-7, against Rutgers University-Camden Friday afternoon.
The host Scarlet Raptors (2-0) broke open the scoring in the first minute of play with a goal by Carly Gregg off the pass of Claire Gailliout. The team went on to tally another seven unanswered goals to stretch its lead to 8-0 halfway through the opening 30 minutes.
Purchase (1-2) scored back-to-back goals at 15:03 and 13:59, thanks to the offensive efforts of
Maddy Mecca (SO/Oceanside, NY) and
Astrella Dacosta (JR/Croton-on-Hudson, NY), respectively.
The Scarlet Raptors pushed back though and answered with a 7-2 run to take a 15-4 lead at the half.
The home team continued to fire away after the break, leading by as much as 19-4 before Purchase scored the final three goals of the game.
Despite the loss, Purchase's
Gabriella Castles (SO/Bethpage, NY) netted her third-straight hat trick of the season with three goals, to go along with one assist and two ground balls. Mecca and Dacosta finished with two goals apiece and combined for 10 draw controls.
For the Scarlet Raptors, Gailliout tallied six goals and two assists for eight points. Gregg finished with six goals, while Jazmin Torres and Demi Albertini chipped in with three goals.
The Panthers are back on the road next Friday (Mar. 22) to take on Elms College. The non-conference matchup is set for 4 p.m.
