Power SJC Spoils Panther League Opener

Purchase, NY (March 28, 2019) – Purchase College opened Skyline Conference action at home Thursday afternoon, falling 13-3 to the visiting Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College (L.I.).

The loss drops Purchase to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league play, while St. Joe's moves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Skyline pay.

SJC's Lauryn Gregson broke the scoring ice less than a minute into the game. She later tallied the assist on Ashley Fisch's 27:34 goal that pushed the Golden Eagles to an early 2-0 lead.
The visiting offense continued to heat up, firing in nine unanswered goals to take an 11-0 halftime lead.

Breanna Daly tacked on the team's 12th goal after the break, before Purchase's Gabriella Castles (SO/Bethpage, NY) broke open the scoring for the Panthers with a goal off the pass of Maddy Mecca (SO/Oceanside, NY) at 20:17.

SJC answered back with a goal by Jamie Benavides off the feed of Nicole Stoppelli.

Trailing 13-1, Purchase closed the game with two goals and held the Golden Eagles scoreless over the final 15 minutes of regulation. Mecca and Castles netted the final points for PC, both unassisted.

Gregson led all scorers with four goals and one assist, while Diana Johnston netted three for a hat trick performance. Ashley Fisch chipped in with a pair of goals, while Tori Staker, Breanna Daly, Jamie Benavides and Nicole Stoppelli contributed to the winning effort with one goal apiece.
