(March 30, 2019) – Senior center fielder and co-captain
Kelly Hayes picked up her 100th career hit, but the Purchase College softball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference games to the College of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon. The host Panthers fell to the visiting Dolphins, 11-3, in the opening game and came up short, 4-0, in game two.
Hayes (Staten Island, NY) reached the milestone with a two-out RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the fifth inning. She became the third Panther to join the 100-hit club since the program joined the Skyline Conference in 2008. (

Game 1: CMSV 11, Purchase 3
The Mount jumped out to an early lead, posting five runs in the top of the first inning. Purchase lit up the board in the bottom half of the inning on a
Kelly Agostini (SO/Centereach, NY) RBI single to left field that brought
Victoria Capone-Froio (Yonkers, NY) around to score.
CMSV added runs in the second and third innings, stretching its lead to double digits (11-1). Agostini batted in another run for Purchase in the bottom of the fifth with a single to right center. Hayes capped the game's scoring when she pushed
Cassidy Montes (FR/Yonkers, NY) across home plate with her 100th career hit.
Agostini and Hayes both went 2-for-3 to lead Purchase at the plate. Agostini totaled a team-best two RBI, while Hayes notched one. Montes,
Kaitlyn Antonelli (SO/Yonkers, NY) and
Iyania Martin (SO/Queens Bridge, NY) chipped in with one hit apiece. Montes suffered the loss and is now 3-3 on the season. The Panther starter allowed 11 runs on three hits while striking out two and walking two over five innings on the mound.
For the visitors, senior third baseman Deanna Nardi tallied a game-high four RBI. She went two-for-three and swiped the plate once. Mount pitcher Hannah Thompson moved to 3-3 on the season after picking up the win in game one. Thompson allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two over five innings of work.
Game 2: CMSV 4, Purchase 0
The visiting offense continued to erupt in second game of the afternoon. The Dolphins drove in runs in the top of the first and fourth innings, and held the Panthers scoreless en route to the doubleheader sweep.
Alanna Alioto-Reyes and Breeze-Lyn Morita led CMSV with two hits apiece. The Dolphins also had RBI tallies from Morita, Alicia Blevins and Sophia Herrera. Mount ace Kayla Pagano recorded her first win of the season after tossing the complete-game shutout.
Purchase returns to its home diamond tomorrow for a league doubleheader against the Bears of St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn). First pitch of the opening game is slated for 11 a.m.
