Panthers Beaten at St. Joseph's College - Long Island

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's lacrosse team lost at St. Joseph's College - Long Island, 14-6, Tuesday night in a Skyline Conference game.

Despite the loss, it was actually the Panthers who got off to a hot start, as Zach Zarrella (SO/Leominster, MA) scored an unassisted goal less than 30 seconds into the game. A couple minutes later, Ben Erkan (SO/Bellport, NY) added his own unassisted strike to double the lead for the guests.

The Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's weren't fazed though, answering back with three straight goals over a five-minute span in the first quarter. The lead was short lived for the hosts however, as Purchase responded with a goal from Dan Ohrem (JR/Ridgefield, CT) off a feed from Dylan Gethicker (SR/Lime Lake, NY) less than a minute later.

Over the final six-plus minutes of the opening frame, the two squads held each other scoreless as the score remained tied at 3-3.

But from the start of the second quarter on, it was all St. Joseph's (6-8 overall, 3-3 Skyline).

The hosts proceeded to outscore Purchase, 11-0, over the next 43 minutes of the contest to roll to the win, 14-6. The Panthers (6-6, 1-4) were able to tally the final three goals of the game, as Isaac Aguero (SR/Bronx, NY), Ohrem and Gethicker each added a goal.

Erkan finished with a team-high five ground balls, while Matt Sayegh (JR/Hopewell Junction, NY) caused two turnovers and recorded nine saves in the effort.

For the Golden Eagles, freshman Anthony Passarella (Port Jefferson Station, NY) finished with a game-high eight points (4g, 4a).

Up next for the Panthers is the season finale, as the team hosts United States Merchant Marine Academy on April 27th at noon. You can follow that game here.
