ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - After a hard-fought battle Wednesday night, the Purchase College men's soccer team earned a scoreless draw at Bard College.
With the result, the Panthers are now 4-2-1 and the Raptors are 1-6-1.
While a tie is certainly better than nothing, the Panthers will be disappointed with the finish, as they had controlled the contest throughout.
On the night, Purchase outshot the hosts, 25-9 overall and 14-3 on goal but was unable to find the back of the net. The Panthers got close though, as they created a couple of great scoring chances.
The first came in the 56th minute off a corner, as
Avery Stevenson (FR/Massapequa Park, NY) nearly scored with a header, only for it be knocked away by Bard defenders at the last moment.
Then in the first overtime,
Juan Arboleda (JR/New Rochelle, NY) and
Jackson Stenborg (JR/Brooklyn, NY) each had their close-range shots parried away by Bard's keeper, Logan Leppo (JR/Lawrenceville, NY), within seconds of each other.
Leppo single-handedly kept Bard in the contest, as he finished with 13 saves (10 in the second half and overtime periods). Meanwhile,
Mario Olmedo (FR/East Elmhurst, NY) finished with three saves and collected the first clean sheet of his career.
Up next for the Panthers is is a return to Skyline Conference action, as the team hosts Mount Saint Vincent on September 28th. That game is set to begin at noon and you can follow it here.
