Purchase Dominates St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in Skyline Win

PURCHASE, NY - In what was arguably their best game of the season, the Panthers of Purchase College steamrolled their way to victory Wednesday, topping St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, 91-55.

From the very beginning, the Panthers (10-5 overall, 5-1 Skyline) established themselves as the best team on the court.

Purchase scored the first six points of the game, before pushing its advantage to 16-5 with just over six minutes played. From then on, the Panthers led by double digits the rest of the night. Over the next 10 minutes, the lead remained in the 10 to 15-point range, as the Bears of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (6-9, 2-4) tried to stay in the fight.

However, they were just eventually overmatched.

After the guests nailed a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 35-23 with 4:35 left in the opening half, the Panthers proceeded to outscore the Bears, 14-2, over the rest of the frame and carry a 49-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Panthers continued to bully the opposition. During the 20-minute frame, Purchase led by as many as 43 points and never less than 22 points.

On the night, the hosts shot 51.4% overall and 45.8% from three-point range. However, it was the Purchase defense that shined brightest in the effort, causing the Bears to shoot just 30.4% overall and 22.2% from long range. The Panthers also caused 16 turnovers and dominated the rebounding battle, 47-40.

Another staple of the Panthers' attack Wednesday was the transition game, as the fast-break opportunities led to 32 points and numerous thunderous dunks for the hosts.

Individually, it was a complete game from all the Panthers on the night, as five players finished in double figures. Senior Maxx Miller (White Plains, NY) finished with a game-high 18 points, Jorge Perdomo (JR/Bronx, NY) tallied 14 points and Jorden Means (FR/New York, NY) added 13 points.

Senior Elijah Lott (Albany, NY) continued his great season, as he finished with a triple-double in the win. He recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists.

However, it was the other Elijah - Elijah Harris (SR/Flushing, NY) - who had the most noteworthy performance of the night. The senior finished with 17 points, which pushed his career total to 1,000 points over his four years at Purchase and the College of New Rochelle.

Harris will be honored before the next home game, which is this Saturday (1/25) vs. Mount Saint Vincent at 2 p.m.

As the Panthers as a whole, the team is now 10-5 overall and 5-1 in the Skyline Conference. The team has also won 10 of their last 11 games.
