Women's Basketball Celebrates Senior Day

Panthers conclude 2019-20 season against top-seeded Knights

PURCHASE, NY – Purchase College women's basketball concluded its 2019-20 season at home Saturday afternoon with a Senior Day game against the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College.

Senior guards Arta Krasniqi (Bronx, NY), Alfa DeJesus (Bronx, NY) and Isis Gonzalez (New York, NY) were celebrated prior to the start of the Skyline Conference matchup, which later turned in favor of the visitors, 68-53.

Purchase (4-21, 3-17 SKY) jumped out of the gate early to take an 8-2 lead after the opening four minutes. MSMC (20-5, 18-2 SKY) answered back over the next several minutes with an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the game (12-11). Both teams exchanged baskets before Krasniqi connected on a running 3-point shot with four seconds remaining in the quarter to tie the game at 19 apiece.

The Panthers kept the momentum going in the second quarter, outscoring the top-seeded Knights 19-11. At the break, Purchase held a 38-30 advantage—a season-best points total in the opening half for the Panthers.

The Mount, however, brought a full court press to the second half and it had an impact. The Knights' new armor forced 21 Panther turnovers and held the home team to just 11.75 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.

With just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter, MSMC's Lyndsay Pace got into the lane and connected in the paint to push the Knights out in front, 42-41. The visitors would hold the lead for the remainder of play en route to the 68-53 win.

Sophomore guard Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY) led the Panthers with 24 points, to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Krasniqi capped her collegiate career with a double-double performance after collecting 18 points and a game-leading 12 rebounds.

Four MSMC players scored in double digits to contribute to the comeback win. Morina Bojka led the Knights with 20 points, five rebounds and three steals. Lauren Desrats added 18 points, five boards and five steals, while Pace finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Annie Keenan recorded a double-double in the books with 11 points and 12 boards, to go along with four assists and a pair of blocks.

As the top-seeded team, Mount Saint Mary is set to host the Skyline Conference Semifinal game on Feb. 27.
