PATCHOGUE, NY – Despite a pair of double-double performances, the Purchase College women's basketball team fell to Skyline foe St. Joseph's College (LI), 64-49, on Wednesday night.
Senior guard
Arta Krasniqi (Bronx, NY) led the Panthers with 20 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Sophomore forward
Shadai Plowden added 14 points, 11 boards, two blocks and a pair of steals.
St. Joe's took a 16-12 lead after the opening 10 minutes of play and ignited in the second quarter (17-3) to take a 33-15 halftime advantage.
Purchase held the shooting edge to start the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles 17-9 in the third quarter. Despite the late rally by the Panthers, Purchase was unable to recover from the deficit. SJC fired in another 22 points in the fourth quarter to secure the 64-49 victory.
The Golden Eagles shot 34.3 percent for the game and held the Panthers to just 27.4 percent shooting, while Purchase had a leg up on the boards, 52-40.
Alyssa Adomaites recorded 17 points and eight assists to lead SJC. Julianna Knice and Megan Steinman chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Alyssa Signow and Catherine Siounis rounded off the double-digit scoring with 10 points apiece. Siounis also pulled down 12 rebounds to finish the night with a double-double in the record books.
SJC improves to 7-13 overall and 5-10 in the Skyline. In defeat, Purchase drops to 3-17 overall and 2-13 in the league.
The Panthers are off for the remainder of the week and will return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 11) when the team heads to Bronxville, N.Y. for a Skyline showdown against the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College.
