PURCHASE, NY – Purchase College men's tennis opened the 2020 season at home against Baruch College on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a valiant effort, the Panthers dropped the match, 8-1, to the visiting Bearcats.
Purchase (0-1) opened strong in doubles action. Senior
Isaac Jones (Ossining, NY) and sophomore
Courage Crawford (Larchmont, NY) broke the scoring ice for the Panthers with an 8-7 (7-5) triumph at the No. 1 spot.
Baruch (4-1) collected the wins at second and third doubles by scores of 8-3 and 8-5, respectively.
Singles opened with a passing rain shower that forced the players off the courts. After a 20-minute stoppage, play resumed.
The Bearcats closed the match with a complete sweep over singles. At the top two spots, Abhinav Srivastava and Christopher Tham recorded 6-2, 6-3 wins. At third singles, George Arteaga battled to a 7-6, 6-2 victory, while Hudson Kaylie picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position. Jeremy Berman and also finished on top, 6-2, 6-2, and Philip Dwan made it a complete sweep for the Bearcats with a three-set (4-6, 6-2, 10-3) success.
