Softball Drops Doubleheader Against Mount Saint Vincent

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team lost a pair of Skyline Conference games Saturday afternoon, falling to the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent by the scores of 8-0 and 6-0.

With the results, the Panthers fell to 0-21 overall and 0-17 in conference action. Meanwhile, Mount Saint Vincent is now 4-10 and 4-7, respectively.

In game one, Purchase nearly struck first following an opening-inning walk from Kelly Agostini (SR/Centereach, NY) and a single from Jaiya Hewitt (JR/Kingston, NY). Agostini moved to third on the Hewitt single, but was stranded there as Mount Saint Vincent's pitcher got out of the jam with a strikeout.

Purchase then held Mount Saint Vincent scoreless in the bottom of the first, before the Dolphins found their hitting stroke one frame later to the tune of four runs.

Things remained 4-0 until the fifth inning, as the Dolphins broke through again with a run to push it to 5-0. One inning later, Mount Saint Vincent added three more to seal the win.

For the Panthers, Hewitt provided the best performance of the day with two singles and two stolen bases in the defeat.

As the two teams proceeded onto game two, the host Dolphins picked up right where they left off, scoring four runs in the first inning and two more in the second to cruise to the eventual 6-0 win.

For the Panthers, Hewitt remained hot at the plate by slapping a double. Alexandria Perez (JR/Bronx, NY) and Jade D'Errico (FR/Wantagh, NY) each collected singles, while Zanaia Godette (SO/Queens, NY) earned two walks in the loss.

Up next for the Panthers is another doubleheader with these Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch is scheduled for noon tomorrow (5/2) and you can follow it here.
