Purchase Thwarted by Farmingdale State

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team had it's two-game winning streak halted Saturday afternoon, as the Rams of Farmingdale State College topped the Panthers by the score of 92-74.

With the Skyline Conference loss, Purchase dropped to 2-9 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Rams meanwhile, improved to 8-6 and 4-1, respectively.

On the day, Farmingdale State started hot. Over the opening five minutes, the guests scored the first seven points and 16 of the first 21 to establish an early double-digit lead.

The Panthers remained in the fight though, trimming the deficit to just five points, 21-16, with 10 minutes to go.

However, as quickly as the hosts cut into the lead, the guests built it right back up. Over the rest of the half, the Rams pushed their lead back into double digits and to as many as 15 points, before settling for a 48-35 halftime lead.

In the second frame, the Panthers attempted to rally, trimming the lead to 11 points on two occasions early on. But that was as close as the hosts got the rest of the day, as the Panthers eventually fell by the score of 92-74.

Individually, Malcolm Hansford-Whyte (SR/Queens, NY) enjoyed a career day, putting up a game-high 29 points and seven rebounds.

Fellow senior Eric Block (Warwick, NY) added 15 points, while Matthew Phillips (FR/Bronx, NY) collected seven points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

Up next for the Panthers is their final non-conference matchup of the season, as they host Mitchell College on January 18th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and you can follow along right here.
