Fourth-Quarter Run Sinks Panthers vs. Farmingdale

PURCHASE, N.Y. - A big fourth quarter by the Farmingdale State Rams edged the Purchase College women's basketball team Tuesday night, 82-59, after the two squads played a tight contest during opening frames.

In the end, the Panthers fell to their Skyline Conference rival after being outscored, 24-9, in the final quarter.

Entering the fourth, the Panthers trailed by just eight points, 58-50, and cut the deficit to just six with nine minutes to go before the floodgates opened for the guests.

Over the next six minutes, the Rams outpaced Purchase, 16-4, to snatch control of the game away and cruise to the eventual win.

While the final score was decidedly in favor of Farmingdale, the opening quarters played out quite differently. To begin the night, the two squads traded 22-13 point frames to carry a 35-35 tie into the halftime break.

Then in the third, the two teams went back and forth, keeping the margin within four points until two minutes remained in the frame. From there, the Rams slowly started the tick their lead up to as many as eight points, which carried them into the dominating and game-winning fourth quarter.

On the night, the Panthers were done in by the shooting of the guests, as Farmingdale outshot Purchase, 55% to 35% overall.

Individually, Purchase was paced by Ariella Johnson (SO/Brooklyn, NY) and Miya Ritchie (SR/Harlem, NY), as the pair finished with 15 points and 13 points, respectively. Ariel Johnson (SO/Brooklyn, NY) added seven points and seven rebounds in the loss.

With the result, the Panthers dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the league. Meanwhile, Farmingdale now sits at 7-5 overall and 5-4 in the Skyline.

Up next for the women's basketball team is more Skyline action, as the team travels to Sarah Lawrence College on January 20th. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip and you can follow along right here.
