BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Purchase College men's volleyball returned to competition for the first time in 686 days on Tuesday night at Brooklyn College.
Despite a spirited effort from the Panthers, it was the host Bulldogs that would walk away with the non-conference win, 3-0. With set scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17, Brooklyn improved to 1-2 overall as Purchase dipped to 0-1.

Jeremiah Huntt (Bronx, NY) led all scorers with a notable 13 kills. The Purchase veteran also tallied a team-best seven digs to fuel the Panther defense. Senior outside hitter
Joe Higgins (Bayside, NY) registered 10 kills on 24 attempts (.250), to go along with six digs and one service ace. Junior setter
Idris Idris (Bronx, NY) dished out a match-high 26 assists and a pair of aces.
Purchase shook off the rust in the opening set, hitting .190 as a team with 10 total kills. The Panthers trailed the Bulldogs throughout the stanza, eventually falling in defeat, 25-18.
In the second set, Brooklyn posted a quick two points before committing an attacking error that broke the scoring ice for Purchase. The Panthers would later tie the set at 4-4 following the combined-kill effort from senior middle blocker
Ben Erkan (Bellport, NY) and Higgins, respectively. Higgins smashed in another five kills in a standout performance for the Blue and Orange. Brooklyn, however, used five unanswered points to erase a 22-20 Purchase advantage and record the set win, 25-22.
Brooklyn kept its momentum going in the third set. The hosts used a 7-0 run to take a 12-6 lead—a lead they would carry throughout the period. BC closed the 25-17 win and secured the match-victory on a Purchase attacking error.
Purchase will look to bounce back next Wednesday (Feb. 2) as the team continues its road slate at York College. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m.
