WAYNE, N.J. - The Purchase College baseball team opened its 2022 season in defeat Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Pioneers of William Paterson University by the score of 21-2.

From the get-go, the Pioneers' (3-1) bats were unstoppable and remained that way throughout.

In the first inning alone, William Paterson tallied nine runs on eight hits. Over the entire game, the Pioneers belted six home runs and scored at least two runs in all but one inning on the day.

For the Panthers, Louis Carvell (JR/New York, NY) knocked in the first run of 2022 with an RBI-groundout in the fourth.

One inning later, James Shea (SR/Brooklyn, NY) doubled down the left field line for guests' other score. 

In all, Purchase finished with seven hits, as Myles Scarry (SO/Levittown, NY) slapped two singles in the loss. 

James May (SR/Floral Park, NY), Christian Homa (SO/Fairfield, CT), Matt Dragotto (FR/Middle Island, NY) and Cameron Cruz (FR/Bronx, NY) each singled in the effort.

On the mound, Alex Doskoez (SR/Eastport, NY) was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs (five earned) during the first-inning barrage. 

Up next for the Panthers is their first of five games at The Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach, SC. That game is set for March 3rd against Hanover College at 2:30 p.m.
