Women's Basketball Bested by Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College women's basketball was defeated at home Wednesday night, falling to the Valiants of Manhattanville College by the score of 88-46.

With the Skyline Conference loss, the Panthers are now 2-19 overall and 2-16 in the league. Meanwhile, Manhattanville improved to 15-6 and 11-5, respectively. 

Miya Ritchie (SR/Harlem, NY) continued her fantastic run of games, recording a game-high 26 points after going 13-for-13 at the free throw line. 

Elsewhere, Jules Martinez (SR/Brooklyn, NY) added nine points and six rebounds, while the Kasia Morrison (SO/Bronx, NY) tallied seven points. Brianna Palermo (JR/Hyde Park, NY) chipped in four points to round out the scoring on the night. 

As for the Valiants, five players finished with double-digits, as Niyona Smith (FR/Towson, MD) led the way with a team-high 20 points. 

Manhattanville started the night fast, scoring nine of the first 11 points, before the hosts rallied midway through the opening frame to get the margin back with in a basket at 11-9.

However, over the final five minutes of the quarter, the guests outscored the Panthers, 14-2, to extend the lead to double digits at 25-11.

That scoring pace continued for the Valiants in the second quarter, as they outpaced Purchase, 22-10, to lead at halftime by the score of 47-21. 

Up next for the Panthers is their first road contest since February 1st, as they travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Feb. 12th. Tip-off is scheduled for noon and you can follow along right here.
