Baseball Cracks 12 Hits in 8-2 Win Over Baruch

Panthers post first victory of 2022

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Paced by stellar plate and pitching performances, the Purchase College baseball team snapped a seven-game skid and earned their first win of the season with an 8-2 victory against visiting Baruch College Tuesday afternoon.

Purchase (1-7) came close to batting around in the first inning, producing four hits and just as many runs in an outburst that led the Panthers to the non-conference win.

Jason Sebastiano (SO/Brooklyn, NY) delivered the big blow of the inning. Following a Cristian Homa (SO/Fairfield, CT) single that brought James Shea (SR/Brooklyn, NY) home to break the scoring ice, Sebastiano smacked a three-run double to right field to push the home team's advantage to 4-0.

Both dugouts went scoreless over the next three innings and both plated a pair of runs in the fifth.

In the top of the inning, Baruch used a Drouin 2-RBI triple to light up the board.

Purchase fired back in the bottom half on a Louis Carvell (JR/New York, NY) fielder's choice that resulted in two runs scored.

Myles Scarry (SO/Levittown, NY) added a 2-RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, to give Purchase an 8-2 lead it would never relinquish.

Eight out of nine members of the Panthers' starting lineup had at least one hit in the game, with Homa leading the way with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate. Scarry went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk, while Sebastiano led all batters with three RBI. Sebastiano, Cameron Cruz (FR/Bronx, NY), James May (SR/Floral Park, NY), Max Vera (SR/Bethpage, NY) and Matt Dragotto (FR/Middle Island, NY) finished with one hit each.

Starting pitcher Alex Doskoez (SR/Eastport, NY) (1-2) was the main benefactor of Purchase's big day. He tossed 7.0 strong innings and gave up two runs on five hits, while striking out seven and walking none en route to his first win of the season.

Robert Fischer took the loss for Baruch. He lasted four innings, walking five batters and allowing four runs on five hits.

The Panthers are back in action on their home diamond again tomorrow to play host to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz. First pitch of non-conference single game is slated for 3:30 p.m.
