Panthers Cruise Past Lehman, 8-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's tennis team picked up its first win of 2022 against Lehman College Friday afternoon. The host Panthers defeated the non-conference Lightning by a score of 8-1.

Purchase (1-2) captured two out of three doubles matches to jump out to a 2-1 lead.  In their first-ever performance as doubles partners, PC's Ben Joory (JR/Port Washington, NY) and Nikita Kordzielewska (JR/Stepnica, Poland) dominated at the No. 2 flight with an 8-1 decision over Kenneth Davis and Christian Agudo.  

Frederick Kaden FR/Farmingdale, NY) and William Isidro (JR/Monroe, NY) pushed the host's lead to 2-0 after downing Lehman's Richie Maagarini and Ray Rodriguez, 8-1, at third doubles.

The visitors went on to record the win at first doubles. Steven Forte and Oscar Garcia battled Purchase's Julian Szuper (SR/New York, NY) and Simon Montalvo (SR/Valencia, Spain) for an 8-7 (7-4) triumph.

In singles play, Kordzielewska was first to finish, sweeping her Lightning opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. Montalvo gave Purchase a 4-1 advantage with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at third singles, and Panther rookie David Goldstein (FR/Leonia, NJ) netted the fifth point and match decision with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the fifth flight.

Purchase went on to make a complete sweep over singles. Joory and Isidro tallied wins at second and fourth singles, respectively, while Szuper battled to a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the top spot.

Up next, the Panthers will play host to Skyline foe Yeshiva University. The league opener is slated for March 30 at 3 p.m.
