Men's Lax Thrashes SUNY Cobleskill in Season Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Dan Lawrence chapter of Purchase College men's lacrosse is off to a great start following the team's dominating win over SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon.

Lawrence, making his Panther debut as head coach, led the hosts to a 15-2 win over the Fighting Tigers.

Defensively, the two goals allowed by Purchase were the fewest given up in a contest since March 23, 2019. It was also just the third time in program history that the Panthers allowed two goals or less in a game.

On the offensive side of the ball, things started slowly between the two squads, as the game opened with a scoreless first quarter.

However, something drastically changed once the second quarter began, as the Panthers exploded to the tune of nine goals over the 15-minute period.

Cristian Ishoo (SR/Tarrytown, NY) got the party started off a feed from Ben Erkan (SR/Bellport, NY) three minutes in. Less than a minute later, Erkan recorded his own goal and sent the team on its way.

The Panthers rallied off seven more goals in the frame to carry a 9-0 lead into the midway break. In all, six players scored at least one goal for Purchase, as Ishoo led the way with six strikes.

Erkan added four goals, three assists and eight ground balls, while Connor Schwenker (SR/Westhampton Beach, NY) tallied four points (2g, 2a) for PC.

In goal, freshman Will Boes (Plesantville, NY) was sensational, recording 10 saves.

Other notable performances for the Panthers included: Riley Donovan (SO/Billerica, MA) with four ground balls and three caused turnovers and Zach Collins (FR/Victor, NY) with a goal and two assists.

Up next for the Panthers is a home matchup with Albertus Magus College on March 9th. That game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
