LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – Purchase softball opened day two of its Myrtle Beach trip with a non-conference matchup against Waynesburg University on Friday. Following a 10-0 loss to the Yellow Jackets, the Panthers headed to an adjacent field inside the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex to take on the Grove City Wolverines.
Purchase held a 6-5 lead heading into the seventh inning but would close the contest in defeat, 8-6, following a walk-off triple (3 RBI) from graduate student Hannah Dietz.
Despite the upset, Purchase saw impressive performances at the plate from a slew of players. Junior infielder
Brianna Palermo (Hyde Park, NY) led the way, batting a notable 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
Jaiya Hewitt (SR/Kingston, NY) and
Kelly Agostini (SR/Centereach, NY) tied the team-high two RBI with a double apiece.
