Purchase Bested at Maritime to Wrap Season

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Purchase College baseball team concluded its 2022 campaign Sunday afternoon against Maritime College by dropping a pair of Skyline Conference games.

Scores for the contests were 5-0 and 13-2. With the results, the Panthers finished the year 11-23 overall and 7-13 in the league. As for Privateers, the moved to 22-12 and 12-8, respectively.

Game 1 - Maritime 5, Purchase 0 (7 inn.)

Despite the final score, the Panthers banged out eight hits overall with Myles Scarry (SO/Levittown, NY) and Sam Saltzman (FR/Plainview, NY) each tallying two hits apiece.

On the hill, Ryan Castrataro (JR/Mahopac, NY) was tagged with the defeat after going 4.1 innings and allowing all five runs on three home runs. 

For the hosts, they belted the three homers over the fourth and fifth innings and enjoyed a complete-game shutout effort from Niko Concha (SR/Ballston Spa, NY).

Game 2 - Maritime 13, Purchase 2 (7 inn.)

After a relatvily low-scoring affair to start the day, Maritime exploded for 13 runs in the second game to cruise to the win. 

The hosts started the fireworks show with three runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth to seal the victory.

For the Panthers, they scored twice in loss with the first run coming in the fourth via a Louis Carvell (JR/New York, NY) sacrifice fly. Two innings later, Saltzman scored on a wild pitch.

Justin Doskoez (SO/Eastport, NY) received the loss after going three innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out four.

The baseball team will return to action next spring in either February or March 2023.
