FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Purchase College softball capped its 2022 road slate Saturday at Farmingdale State College.
Traveling with only a handful of its starters due to injury and illness, Purchase came up short on both ends of the Skyline Conference doubleheader, 8-0 and 13-1.
As a result, Purchase dropped to 10-20 overall and 6-10 in the Skyline, while FSC improved to 24-3 overall and 15-1 in the league.
Game One: Farmingdale 8, Purchase 0
Purchase was limited to just two hits in the opener, both coming from Panther senior
Kelly Agostini (Centereach, NY).
In the top of the second inning, Agostini got on with a frozen rope to the pitcher. She connected again in the fourth with a single to center field.
Leading Farmingdale, Julianna Prescia went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and one run scored, while Brooke Walker had two hits and two runs scored. Lyndsey Shaw and Jenna Giliberti each had two hits and an RBI.
Allie Stanya (W, 11-1, 7 SO, 0 R, 2 H) tossed four shutout innings to pick up her 11th victory of the season.
Game Two: Farmingdale 13, Purchase 1
FSC jumped out to an early advantage on a leadoff home run by Shaw—her eighth of the season. The homer highlighted a 7-run inning for the hosts before tacking on security runs in the second and fourth frames to stretch it to 13-0.
Purchase snapped the shutout attempt with a run of its own in the top of the fifth. After the leadoff batter struck out swinging,
Julia Marsala (SO/Shoreham, NY) stepped up to the plate and singled to third base. A pair of Ram throwing errors sent Marsala around the bases and in to score the unearned tally.
Despite giving up the run, Farmingdale went on for the 13-1 run-rule victory.
Shaw led the Rams with a home run, two doubles, five runs batted in and a run scored. Walker notched a home run, double, three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Clark went 2-for-2 with a home run, RBI and two runs scored. Julia Prescia knocked in one RBI and two runs scored and Cowen finished 3-for-3 with two ribbers and a pair of runs scored.
Freshman pitcher Ava Shorr (12-1) threw four innings in relief with seven strikeouts to earn the win.
Marsala, Agostini,
Olivia Audia (FR/Dover Plains, NY), Olivia McClellan (FR/Corning, NY),
Jade D'Errico (SO/Wantagh, NY) and
Rebecca Bronzi (FR/Lagrangeville, NY) recorded one hit apiece to lead the Panther offense.
