TEANECK, N.J. — The Purchase College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against Yeshiva University Wednesday evening at Votee Park.
With the tie, Purchase (7-7-2, 3-6-2) closed out its 2023 campaign, while the host Maccabees (6-4-3, 6-2-3) secured the No. 3 seed in this weekend's Skyline postseason tournament.
Yeshiva's offense fired in a slew of shots early in the game but were shut down by Purchase goalkeeper Jack Gjokaj (JR/Thornwood, NY) on every attempt.
Despite Gjokaj's efforts, the Maccabees broke through in the 17th minute. Franco Busso provided the the go-ahead goal off the feed from Asher Martin.
Yeshiva held the 1-0 advantage through halftime and for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Two minutes after a missed shot from Liam George (JR/Brooklyn, NY) at 52:20, Ermin Mackic buried the equalizer (unassisted) to finally light up the board for Purchase.
Both teams continued to rifle shots as time counted down but neither found success.
For the game, Yeshiva held a 20-15 shot advantage (9-8 on goal) and 9-8 edge in corner kicks.
Mackic pushed his season-goal total to 18 following Wednesday's performance. The standout rookie caps his debut season atop the Skyline standings at No. 1 for almost every offensive category, including goals, (18), assists (14), points (50), shots (124) and shots on goal (67).
Gjokaj provided eight saves for Purchase, while Kellian Marty recorded seven stops for Yeshiva.
