Men's Basketball Concludes Season at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's basketball team closed out the 2022-23 season with a loss Saturday afternoon, falling to Manhattanville College by the score of 73-50.

With the result, the Panthers finished the year with an 8-17 overall record and a 3-13 mark in Skyline Conference games.

For the Valiants, they tallied records of 19-6 and 12-4, respectively, as the win sealed the North Division for the squad heading into the Skyline playoffs.

From the very get-go Saturday, the hosts lived up to their billing as the top team in the division and possibly even the entire conference, as they opened the game with a 12-2 run.

The squad continued to build on that lead throughout the first half, pushing it to as many as 18 points, before taking a 14-point advantage into halftime, 39-25.

Despite Purchase's best effort, the guests couldn't manage a comeback in the second half as they never got closer than down 13 points. In the end, outside of a 2-2 score during the first two minutes of the game, the hosts led the entire time.

Individually, Mark Morgan (SR/Bronx, NY) and Isaac Johnson (JR/Bronx, NY) tied for the team-lead with 10 points apiece, while Elijah Holmes (SO/Brooklyn, NY) finished with seven points and six rebounds.

The game served as the final contest in Morgan's and James Brady's (SR/Yonkers, NY) collegiate careers, as the duo is set to graduate in May.

For the team, the eight wins marked a two-win improvement over the 2021-22 campaign. The Panthers will return to the court for the 2023-24 season in November.
