PURCHASE, N.Y. – Three challenging non-conference matches in five days proved too much to overcome Monday as a talented Ramapo squad topped Purchase, 7-2.
In defeat, the host Panthers dropped to 2-2 overall. The Roadrunners broke .500 and improved to 4-3 on the season.
Ramapo opened strong, recording a trio of wins across doubles play.
Junior Roadrunner Bobby Ciarletta kept Ramapo's momentum going in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win against
Steve Mains (SO/Mount Kisco, NY) at the No. 4 spot. Nate Cooper was next in line, securing the match decision with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fifth singles against
William Isidro (SR/Monroe, NY).
Julian Szuper (5th/New York, NY) and
Ben Joory (SR/Port Washington, NY) were bright spots for Purchase, collecting wins at first and third singles, respectively. In the final match of the afternoon, Szuper bested Siddharth Byreddy, 6-3, 6-2. Joory battled to a 1-6, 5-7, 10-6 triumph over Matthew Doran.
Making their collegiate tennis debut, seniors
Angus Goldman (Palisades, NY) and
Danya Boudreau Golfman (Londonderry, VT) competed at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Purchase returns to its home court this Wednesday for a non-conference match against Hunter College starting at 3 p.m.
