HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Purchase College women's lacrosse team secured its first win of the 2023 season Tuesday afternoon, besting Centenary University by the score of 11-2.
With the result, the Panthers moved to 1-2 overall, while the Cyclones dropped to 0-3.
The two sides opened the game with a scoreless first quarter, before an early strike in the second frame put the hosts ahead.
However, from that moment on, it was all Purchase the rest of the way.
Alyssa Kozak (JR/East Meadow, NY) got the party started with a trio of goals in the second period, as the Panthers led at the break, 3-2.
In the second half, the guests outscored Centenary, 8-0, as the defense locked in and the offense came alive.
Individually, Kozak finished with a game-high six points (5g, 1a) and nine draw controls.
Michelle Gomez (SR/Oceanside, NY) collected three goals and an assist, while
Brienne Westfall (SR/Grand Island) tallied three assists and a goal.
Julieth Velasquez (FR/White Plains, NY) and
Giavanna Cordero (JR/Selden, NY) each added a goal in the victory.
In goal,
Casandra Schmoger finished with five saves and a ground ball.
