Men's Volleyball Prevails at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's volleyball team earned a hard-fought win Thursday night, as the Panthers outlasted Sarah Lawrence College in four sets.

Set scores for the contest were 25-15, 25-23, 15-25 and 25-19.

With the win, the Blue and Orange moved to 5-19 overall and 3-10 in the Skyline Conference. For the Gryphons, they dropped to 0-17 and 0-12, respectively.

The match started slowly as the two sides traded points back-and-forth. The difference in the set came with the score tied at 7-7, as Purchase began to pull away thanks to three mini-rallies of at least three points each.

In set two, the Panthers raced out to a quick start, scoring 12 of the first 16 points of the frame.

However, the Gryphons didn't go down without a fight. In fact, the hosts managed to regain the lead late in the set via a four-point run to leapfrog the Panthers, 20-19.

Purchase then answered with back-to-back points, before the two sides traded points to an eventual, 22-22 tie score.

From there, the guests scored three of the final four points to seal the win, 25-23.

Following the tough loss, the hosts answered with a vengeance in the third set, taking the lead early and never relenting in the 25-15 performance.

With the dropped set, the Panthers regained their focus in the fourth and final frame.

Over the course of the stanza, the squad reeled off four runs of three-straight points or more to create separation between themselves and the Gryphons, before scoring four of the final five points to win the match, 25-19.

Overall, the guests finished with 38 kills on .137 hitting, as the trio of Luca Spadinger (FR/Loudonville, NY), Chris Posillico (SR/Saltaire, NY) and Marcus Garguilo (SO/Port Washington, NY) powered the win.

The three hitters combined for 35 kills, as Spadinger finished with team-high marks in kills (13) and digs (22).

Posillico added 12 kills and 11 digs, while Garguilo tallied 10 kills, 17 digs, four aces and four blocks (two solo).

Up next for the Panthers is Senior Night, as the team closes out its home schedule against SUNY Old Westbury on April 4 at 7 p.m. You can follow along here.
